Friend Jackies Curio Shop

Have been to visit my dear friend Jackie and her curio shop..... She has some amazing things at waydown prices...... I have just purchased a beautiful Head.....
I hope to take a photo of it to place on my blog...
She reminds me of a character from a Jane Austen novel it is so lovely...
I have already been offered more money for it...
But I love her too much.....
As for collecting;
My mother had a small curio shop also I was brought up in that generation where folks saved things for rainy days...
Now I don't collect much.....
My older daughter has just moved to a lovely Edwardian House nr Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
I let her have a large victorian table with a drawer: two pine chests:a 40's school bookcase glass fronted;My mothers Georgian Bureau:A pr of Pink Lustres: My grandmothers copper kettle and a few other bits and bobs.....
I still have stuff... Oh dear........
She was fairly minimal??? But now the older house......

It has been a real oasis in the desert....
God has given powerful word and direction over the years......
Sadly many have gone to be with the Lord and although we here still Miss them greatly

Our Church

After much prayer... we are finaly settled @ the sheltered housing in Market Weighton.....
We visited a few churches in the area and finaly feel @ home...
The church was renting in the Church of England primary school...
But felt to move out and finaly purchased a lease...
At present it is called Armstrong House and is in the centre of Market Weighton above
netto.....
We have some that stay some that come and go due to various family and work commitments
It is multicultural... We really feel @ home.....
We do still attend our old fellowship when we can....
As we still have a house in Goole (To be sorted God willing) we do worship with New Insperations at Trinity Methodist church and also at Cenral methodisat church where we married nearly 26 years ago:

Have been living in the sheltered housing for just over a month... It is really lovely
After so long in bed with the faithful care of my husband is good to be out.......
I do miss my garden.... WE can just have window boxes here...
But at the moment we still have our large 3 floor & basement house where Dave lives P/T as we can't leave empty...hopefully we can get sold God willing.....
When back last week paid all the overheads at that end did the garden and had hiatus/hernia attack along with other things.....
Find it SO DIFFICULT after being so active........
Praise God he knows the future....

A Dear friend & true man of G-d passing....

just over 2 weeks ago...
He was such a friend of Israel and her people and land......

I met a lovely Jewish lady there who is Dutch but living in Israel
they are making a film of her early days.......

Dear ALL
Have finally been able to get into my BLOG...
After hours of trying...
Am now ensconced in a very nice sheltered housing condo
in East Yorkshire...
My husband is staying in our house some days till it is
sold God willing......
I am still in pain many days...
More and more chronic problems...

Iraq this dire war

I have been thinking of my thoughts on this
abysmal war....
I did not agree with the concept when we went in!
It should have been sorted over Kuwait over 10 yrs
ago....
We reap what we sow don't we?
The situation is just getting worse & worse....
Our top milatary commander has finaly spoken out!
Most people agree with him....
Still many of our young men are there....
I was concerned at the time that 'no forward
planning had been given to it!' ie civilians children
etc.,'
As usual the politicians .us. with respect...
Had thought it would be ' in & out'...
I was in the .us. in the late 60's and well
remember the Vietnam situation.... like many
Americans do!
I pray we will pull out as soon as possible....
How naive was that!
I know it is easy for us all to reflect after the situation.....
Although we value our friendship with the .us.
Our culture & values are quite different...
Things are not as black & white as they suppose
Can I use that term in this terrible pc society.....
For one thing :we don't have the death penalty...
our judicial system tends to be less severe along with prisons etc.,
Enough of my thoughts on it!
Only God can help in this terrible situation.....

we went for a coffee & chat...
He is now in Mozambique with a
programme...

Lastingham Grange

Our friends have a lovely hotel called Lastingham Grange

It is in the small hamlet of Lastingham in Yorkshire....

We went for the St georges day weekend Lunch..

It was a beautiful meal...

You are treated so well you feel so special there....

working with her there...

We have done so many jobs today.......
I bought a new computer desk unfortunately it
wasn't ergonomicaly designed...
Was much higher than my other...
So David had to take all to bits!
And cut some off the bottom was far to high....
Then David srubbed the yard It was coated with algae
uggghhh... I think will have to do again!
Also took rubbish to tip and recycled glass...
Then put up new medicine cabinet in bathroom.
I moved cupboard from bathroom onto landing with towels etc.,
We still have lots to do!
Will tackle some more next week!

Today

Today I slept late......
when I looked out of the door...
The rain was torrential but very warm for the uk....
They say with global warming we are to become subtropical....
Since illnesses I just feel so tired mentaly phisically & spiritualy.....
The gas fire I am still reacting to this allergies'...
Even though we have had it cleaned...
I understand you can react to the nitrous oxide on the open ones with coals....
So it has had to go....
I broke down and wept...
I feel so guilty about these allergies....
It looks so nice too.
We have a heater in one of the bedrooms we will have to bring that down..
To use we hope to have central heating in for the spring....
Just another winter....
The house is really too large for us now...
But I can't face downsizing...
I think I lack faith on it!
Just have to cope....
Am just doing 2 loads of washing.....
The rain has stopped still it has done the garden good!
Will sign off now as I have quite a lot to do!

When I came to live in Yorkshire:
My mother was really thrilled. As

Haworth. Home of the 'Brontes'.
I don't know if it was due to the novels
But when we got there Haworth was
really not bleak and wild...
Yes the moors were. One could almost
imagine Heathcliffe ambling along.
But Haworth itself was thronged with
visitors world wide. The parsonage
and church being part of the village itself....

The Pavillion Gardens Buxton
' The hothouse'

This was one of the first times I saw
truly beautiful indoor garden....
Depending on when it is photographed
the scene changes....
When I was growing up on many visits to Buxton
I remember the beautiful 'art deco'
room they also had' for tea dances'.....
many parlour palms were dotted about
the walls and furnishings in greens and golds....
How my mothers generation enjoyed their
tea dances and orchestras in the Pavilion....

My mother came from Buxton in Derbyshire
which is a spa town.....
t is about 200 miles from Essex.
So she was considered a' northerner'.
The dialect and way of life was really quite
different: If not geographicaly that far away.

My father was born in the small town of Castle Hedingham in

Essex. He lived here for a few years as a boy. I think he was

the oldest in the family.....

He then moved to Maldon in Essex where I lived......

Funnily enough on a vist to white plains ny I just met ONE Amish gentleman who had
driven all the way up from Pennsylvania to sell his wares... He was just shutting his

The grandchildren & my husband and I spent the day with them all and their mummy and daddy at Robin Hoods Bay..... We had a really nice day. It is very picturesque and a very steep climb to the little town & the bay......

Tommorrow is Yom Kippur. We are supposed to be praying for Israel.
So hopefully I can this evening....
The women Aglow group which I belong too.
Has a mandate to stand with Israel so we are to Pray for them.

Table & chairs....

A few years ago I bought a 'barley twist table & was given 4 Edwardian chairs.
The table was difficult to eat at as you caught your knees on the legs underneath!
Also older daughter has 3 children now and two are out of high chairs....
I gave her a 6' long victorian pine table with two large drawers in.
A Mrs Beeton table.....
I neede one smaller in the end after looking @ a few ranging in price from
£200 -£300.... We went to another store they had a lovely table made in India
I just loved it 4' but quite wide & solid. With four chairs plus my 2 better chairs
that I already have. Anyway it was £200 but was slightly shop soiled so I
got it for £150- Husband was also able to take it to pieces with the help of the
store workers and we managed it all in the car, chairs as well. My old one is
outside with the chairs waiting for a friend....
I t looks so nice looks like a proper dining area now. I bought a bunch of Iris
reduced & put in a tall vase it looks really nice.....
I also have lots of stuff in the hall waiting for a yard top sale. I hope we can do
one this week end. Any stuff we don't sell can go to a charity shop. Thrift store
to those who wonder......

Tarrytown Tea shop

While visiting Tarrytown ny On a very wet October

afternoon. I came across the 'Silver Tips Tea shop'

It was really pleasant. The waitress being concerned about

her husband who was an airline pilot in Florida.

He was there during one of the hurricanes....

The 'Red Hat Society' also meets there. It is fun all

the ladies as you can imagine wear 'Red Hats'....

Tea Shops...

I have always loved tea shops.

One of the most famous in the ukare' Bettys'.

They are all in Yorkshire.....

On the right is a picture of 'Baby Betty'.

She is thought to be who the teas shops are named after.

Past Longings

The clock on the wall is somehow silent

since you left the dying embers no longer dance

into flame anymore now that you are gone.....

Frost laden branches on panes of glass cast dappled

shadows upon stone floors...

Reflections in a symphony of dance to

your memory....

Pebble Beach

Today the girls and I went down to the sea.

As we got to the shingle beach, the tide coming in

brought with it huge waves in unison.

Looking... we found small rock pools, dipping out toes

the water icy cold suddenly we saw them, hundreds of

tiny shrimpspink.....

Around us seaweed clumping from the rocks

The girls darted off piling pebbles one on top of another

making small gullies in the sand; where water seeping

past stones that formed bridges and tunells "fortified"

Look mother they called'Our castles in the rock'.
